Managing patient prescriptions
In this guide, providers will learn how to use ePrescribe to write a prescription in eVisit, modify existing prescriptions, and edit a patient’s preferred pharmacy. ePrescribe allows providers to write and send prescriptions for medications and medical supplies. ePrescribe is only available during a visit and after a completed visit. There is no set time limit to submit the prescription.
Note: There are some limitations with ePrescribe. Please be aware that ePrescribe does not provide the ability to prescribe controlled substances or display:
- Drug-on-drug interaction alerts
- Known allergy interactions
- Prescription insurance benefits summary
How do I write a prescription with ePrescribe?
In eVisit, providers can write prescriptions for both medications and medical supplies. They will follow similar steps when prescribing either of these items.
The prescription request will not be completed if the patient’s phone number is incorrect or not in service. The patient will need to edit their phone number in their user account after the visit is completed to receive their prescription.
- Open the visit side panel and click RX
- At the bottom of the Prescriptions section, click Add Prescription
By default, the Medication tab is selected. Click Supply to prescribe durable medical goods.
- Type the name of a medication in the Name field to view a list of matching results
- Select the medication to prescribe
After selecting a medication, additional fields will appear. Complete each field as needed.
- Click Save
- Click Submit All to submit the prescription(s) to the patient’s preferred pharmacy for processing
If the prescription needs to be changed, click the edit icon.
The patient will receive a notification from eVisit that the pharmacy will contact them when it is ready for pick-up.
How to "Favorite" a prescription
If certain prescriptions are written often, save time by making those prescriptions favorites.
To add a favorite medication after it's been written:
- Select the Favorite medications checkbox
- Click Save
The medication is now saved as a favorite for all the providers in the practice.
How to edit a patient’s preferred pharmacy
Confirm the pharmacy on file is accurate. If not, the provider will need to edit the patient’s preferred pharmacy. Follow these steps to choose another pharmacy:
- Open the visit sidebar and click the RX icon
- In the Preferred Pharmacy section, click the edit icon
By default, a map view of the pharmacies near the patient’s address will appear – the closest one will be in the center of the map. Move the map to find the correct pharmacy, then click it.
To switch to a list view, click the list. The closest pharmacy will be at the top of the list.
- Scroll down the list to find the correct pharmacy
- Select the pharmacy
- Click Update
Note: Patients must choose their preferred pharmacy during their initial registration process. Providers cannot do this for them; however, they can change the pharmacy once the registration is completed and they are in or have finished the virtual visit.
