When trying to start my visit, it says "Pre-Auth Error". What is that?

What is a Pre-Auth?

In order to provide services, some practices may need to pre-authorize a set amount when you submit a visit request.

This amount varies from practice to practice, but it should be displayed in the terms of agreement on the Confirmation Page when submitting your visit.

Here is a sample from one of the many practices using eVisit.

Why do I get a Pre-auth error?

As mentioned above, when you submit a visit, a hold is placed on your card for a certain amount.

If you receive a pre-auth error when trying to submit your visit it can be due to:

  • Insufficient funds
  • Invalid card
  • Fraud
  • Bank refusing to allow pre-auth

If you receive a pre-auth error, you can try changing your card on file.

If you do not have another card to use, please feel free to reach out to us. We may be able to provide more information as to why your card is not being pre-authorized.
